The story
Geisha, also known as geiko in Kyoto and Kanazawa or geigi, are female Japanese performing artists and entertainers, trained in traditional Japanese performing arts such as dance, music and singing, and proficient conversationalists and hosts. In this asymmetric mandala artwork I have portrayed this classical subject, the Geisha, and infused it with the traditional Buddhist mandala art by ornamenting and embellishing this unique, pristine subject using pigment ink, pearls, plastic and metallic trims, paper, watercolour and more.
About mandala art
In the ancient Sanskrit language of Hinduism and Buddhism, mandala means “circle.” Traditionally, a mandala is a geometric design or pattern that represents the cosmos or deities in various heavenly worlds. Through my artworks and paintings I have infused the traditional form of Buddhist mandala art with other religions, subjects and asymmetry, and used various mixed mediums like metallic trims, pearls and stones to bring out creativity and innovation in its most refined form. I have tried to cover mandala art with versatility, in a more metamorphosed technique.
